Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Courtney Masella-O'Brien, and I am a mom, an attorney who advocates for small businesses, and a candidate in 2020 for the Martinez School Board.
MEET COURTNEY:
I come from a family of teachers and I know that a good public education system is good for our community. I’m running for the Martinez Unified School District board, Area 4, because I care about the success of all Martinez’s students.
I’m the mom of a Martinez Junior High student, a school and community volunteer leader, and an attorney who advocates for small businesses. Before law school at UC Davis, I worked as a substitute teacher – and in law school worked in the Health, Education, and Welfare division at the CA Attorney General’s office.
As an attorney, I’ve learned that collaboration yields results. As a volunteer in the Martinez schools and our community, I’ve worked to improve program delivery while respecting budget limitations. I’ll use those skills as an advocate for Martinez students and schools. I will be a leader whose focus is on integrity, transparency, and what's best for all of Martinez’s students.
My volunteer and community work includes serving as a committee member for Martinez Unified School District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan, an auction volunteer for the Morello Park Elementary PTA, the Vice President of the Martinez Community Swim Team, a volunteer for Main Street Martinez events, and as a committee member of the School Site Councils at Morello Park Elementary and the Martinez Junior High.
On the school board, I will find creative solutions that benefit all students, and advocate for additional school funding, equity, diversity education, libraries, the arts, and special education resources.
I am an avid sports fan, especially baseball and football, and collect San Francisco Giants memorabilia. I love to hike, swim and ski.
I would be honored to earn your vote.

ISSUES:
•Sound fiscal management while advocating for increasing school funding at the local, state, and federal level
•Champion social-emotional lessons, mental health services, and school safety
•Implement equity, diversity, anti-bias, and ethnic studies curriculum
•Enhance special education services, resources, and arts and music opportunities
•Increase reading programs and library services
•Creative solutions while respecting budget limitations
• Support liveable wages, safe conditions and good benefits for employee groups
We can make Martinez schools even better. I’d be honored to earn your vote. Please contact me at courtneyformartinez@gmail.com or (925) 269-7073 if you'd like to discuss my ideas, or yours.
